ELS Instruments (formerly CAEN ELS) Power Supplies in Australia

Bipolar, four-quadrant and monopolar magnet power supplies from ELS Instruments (formerly CAEN ELS)
ProDigitek supplies power supplies from ELS Instruments, the Italian manufacturer formerly known as CAEN ELS, to research labs, accelerator facilities and industry across Australia and New Zealand. The range covers digital, current- and voltage-controlled power supplies for magnets and other inductive loads, from compact bipolar units for corrector magnets to 10 kW high-stability systems for nuclear and accelerator physics.
Bipolar models such as the FAST-PS, FAST-PS-1K5 and EASY-DRIVER cross zero smoothly, which suits corrector, quadrupole and steering magnets. The FAST-PS-1K5 can also run in full four-quadrant mode (source and sink) with an optional crate. Monopolar models such as the FAST-PS-M, NGPS and DiRAC cover higher-current, single-polarity loads.
ProDigitek is the authorised ELS Instruments distributor for Australia and New Zealand, trusted by research facilities including ANSTO and the Australian Synchrotron. Our team in Seven Hills, NSW prepares quotes in Australian dollars, manages ordering, shipping and import, and provides installation, training and after-sales support, working directly with the manufacturer when needed. Tell us your magnet's current, voltage and stability requirements and we will help you choose the right model.

ELS Instruments (formerly CAEN ELS) magnet power supplies supplied by ProDigitek in Australia

Applications: accelerator, corrector, quadrupole and superconducting magnets

High-stability and extreme precision of the magnetic fields are key factors in several fields of application, including medical related purposes, e.g. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and paramagnetic material studies.

ELS Instruments power supply series enables users to easily adjust the output current, and so the generated magnetic field, in any situation, thanks to the extreme reconfigurability and the proprietary digital control loop technique that permits a real-time setting of the power supply parameters. Every power supply module is also provided with a display in order to monitor and control the unit locally.

Induced magnetic fields are a main issue when developing, upgrading or renewing particle accelerator machines. Obtaining the desired particle focus and trajectory is strongly affected by the power supplies quality and the machine operation by their reliability.

These digital current-controlled SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supplies) were specifically developed for both linear accelerators e.g. Free Electron Lasers and synchrotron light sources, from low energy (keV) to high energy (GeV) ones, having all the same need to control correctors, quadrupoles, sextupoles and skew magnets. The strict need for a 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year operation was one of the strongest factors in the design of these state-of-the-art current generators.

Frequently asked questions

Is CAEN ELS the same company as ELS Instruments?

Yes. CAEN ELS changed its name to ELS Instruments in 2026. The products, team and support are unchanged, and old caenels.com links now lead to els-instruments.com. ProDigitek continues to supply and support the full range in Australia and New Zealand.

Is ELS Instruments the same as CAEN S.p.A.?

No. ELS Instruments (formerly CAEN ELS) was established in 2009 as a spin-off of CAEN and is a separate company focused on magnet power supplies, current transducers and beamline electronics. CAEN S.p.A. makes high voltage and low voltage power supplies for detectors, digitisers and nuclear electronics. See our CAEN high voltage power supplies page.

What is the difference between a bipolar and a four-quadrant power supply?

A bipolar supply can output positive and negative current or voltage, crossing zero without rewiring. A four-quadrant supply can also sink (absorb) power, so it acts as a source and a load in both polarities. The FAST-PS and EASY-DRIVER are bipolar, and the FAST-PS-1K5 supports full four-quadrant operation with its optional crate.

Do you have a quadpolar power supply for quadrupole magnets?

Quadpolar is not a standard term. Manufacturers usually say four-quadrant or 4-quadrant bipolar power supply. For quadrupole, corrector and steering magnets, the bipolar FAST-PS family is the usual starting point, and the FAST-PS-1K5 offers four-quadrant operation. Send us the magnet's inductance, resistance, current and ripple requirements and we will recommend a model.

Can I get a quote in Australian dollars and local support?

Yes. We quote in Australian dollars, handle ordering, shipping and import, and provide installation, training and after-sales support from Seven Hills, NSW.
